Help with PDF (Portable Document Format) and Adobe Acrobat Reader
We have used the latest version of Acrobat to enable links within the PDF documents and to make our documents accessible to people with screen readers. Here are some common questions and suggested solutions if you have difficulty opening these files.

What is PDF?
When I click on the PDF link nothing happens
When I click on the PDF link I get an error message
I can open the PDF but cannot print or save the document
I use a screen reader but am having difficulty reading your PDF documents
I have tried everything but still cannot access your documents. Who can I contact to obtain an accessible version?

What is PDF?

PDF stands for Portable Document Format which is a technology that allows documents from others file types such as Microsoft Word to be accurately reproduced on the Internet and easily printed.

PDF is not supported by most browsers and requires additional software, a PDF reader, to be installed on your computer. Adobe Acrobat Reader® can be downloaded free of charge to view PDF files which are commonly used on many websites.

When I click on the PDF link nothing happens

If you have trouble opening PDFs, you may have not have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer or you may have an older version of Acrobat Reader.

When I click on the PDF link I get an error message

Possible causes for getting error messages that you may wish to investigate include:

I can open the PDF but cannot print or save the document

If you have trouble printing PDFs, you may have an older version of Acrobat Reader. You can try clicking on the "HTML version" link to view and print the information in your web browser (available for many of our documents).

Alternatively, you can download latest Adobe Acrobat Reader® for free which should allow you to view and print these files.

I use a screen reader but am having difficulty reading your PDF documents

To read the PDF document with a screen reader please visit the Access Adobe website which provides useful tools and resources. Adobe also has a free online conversion tool for PDFs.

I have tried everything but still cannot access your documents. Who can I contact to obtain an accessible version of a document that I want?

If you use assistive technologies such as Screen readers, you might try visiting the Adobe Access website for tips and advice.
