About course accreditation
In the vocational education and training sector, accreditation is the formal recognition of a course by a state or territory course accreditation body. The Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) 2007 Standards for Accredited Courses and the AQTF Standards for State and Territory Course Accrediting Bodies were endorsed by the National Quality Council on 5 July 2007.

Developing an accredited course
Any organisation or individual responsible for the development of a course can apply to have that course accredited. Training organisations must be registered to deliver accredited courses. Registration to deliver recognised training is a separate process to course accreditation.
Renew an accredited course
Accreditation of a course may be reaccredited or extended (without amendment) at the discretion of the Training and Employment Recognition Council.
Amending an accredited course
Where training packages containing national competency standards relevant to an accredited course are revised, or endorsed, the course developer is obliged to amend the course to incorporate the new material from the relevant training packages/competency standards. This is a condition of accreditation. In addition, other circumstances may require the amendment of a course.
