Vocational Education Training and Employment Act 2000

The Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 2000 was introduced by the Queensland Government to provide a legislative foundation for flexible high quality training to support Queensland's workforce, both now and in the future. The legislation has introduced better regulation of the apprenticeship and traineeship system and a more effective structure for providing advice on vocational education, training and employment matters to the government.

The objectives of the Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 2000 are:

The Training and Employment Recognition Council is responsible for registration and regulation of training organisations, apprenticeships, traineeships, and vocational placements, as well as course accreditation.

The Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 2000 requires the Training and Employment Recognition Council to advise on policy and guidelines for issues including the registration and regulation of training organisations and training contracts, the accreditation of courses, and the regulation of accredited courses. The Act states that in performing its function or exercising its powers, the council must comply with all approved guidelines.

The Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 2000 was known previously as the Training and Employment Act 2000.

Sections 20 - 45 of the Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 2000 apply specifically to registered training organisations. Where a registered training organisation has a component of a vocational placement in a training course, sections 107 to 132 also apply.
