Strategic industry audits

A strategic industry audit is an audit of registered training organisations operating in a specific industry sector, targeted on the basis of identified risks relating to that sector. Organisations are audited against the Australian Quality Training Framework standards.

Any stakeholder/s (employer, employee, industry representative body etc.) may submit a proposal to the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts to conduct a strategic industry audit to investigate issues relating to the quality of training and/or assessment and vocational outcomes in a particular industry sector.

Any such proposal should include the identification of current industry training practices, reasons for necessary systemic improvement, and any relevant supporting evidence.

The department will investigate the proposal and, if warranted, convene a reference group to oversee the audit.

Organisations are notified by mail if their industry sector is to be audited. Where an organisation is selected for audit, that organisation will be contacted by an auditor at least two weeks prior to the audit date.

Audits will be conducted on selected registered training organisations by one or more departmental auditors, with the support of a recognised industry technical adviser (where possible). The standard Australian Quality Training Framework audit process will be followed for individual strategic audits and all possible audit outcomes will apply. Findings from the collective audits and student feedback will be analysed to identify system-wide issues, possible causes, and opportunities for improvement.

Where a registered training organisation has been selected for participation in a strategic industry audit, the organisation's inclusion is not negotiable.
