National Quality Council
The National Quality Council was established in November 2005, replacing the former National Training Quality Council.
The council's role is to oversee quality assurance and ensure national consistency in the application of the Australian Quality Training Framework standards for auditing and registering training providers.
It brings together industry, unions, governments, equity groups and training providers to oversee and support the current and future quality of vocational education and training across Australia.
The council's current members were drawn from the former membership of the National Training Quality Council, with the addition of two representatives of training providers (one public and one private). These additional representatives were nominated by the Australian Council for Private Education and Training, and TAFE Directors Australia.
In 2007, membership of the council will change. Members will include:
- an independent chair, appointed by the Australian Government
- seven industry representatives and an Australian Council of Trade Unions representative, nominated by the National Industry Skills Committee
- a representative from each state and territory and the Australian Government
- two provider representatives (one public and one private), nominated by the Australian Council for Private Education and Training, and TAFE Directors Australia
- two equity representatives (one for Indigenous Australians and one for people with a disability), nominated by states and territories and drawn from the state and territory advisory networks.
More information about the National Quality Council's projects and activities, including the latest issue of its Quality Council Focus newsletter is available on the council's website.
