Productivity Places
The Productivity Places Program (PPP) implements a core element of the Australian Government's Skilling Australia for the Future policy, by providing 630,000 training places nationally over five years. The program aims to address areas of skill shortage and focuses on higher level skills, with at least 90% of places at Certificate III or above. Both existing workers and 'job seekers' are targeted.
The Program began in April 2008 with the offer of 20,000 Commonwealth-funded places for job seekers. Over four years a total of 275,000 existing worker places and 175,000 job seeker places will be offered. Queensland will notionally be allocated 20% of these places, i.e. approximately 55,000 existing worker and 35,000 job seeker places. All existing worker places will be funded jointly by the Commonwealth and states and will be offered on a contestable basis.
Industry Skills Councils will liaise with state advisory bodies to identify areas of skills shortage and priority training places, and will advise both DETA and Skills Australia.
Queensland is currently in negotiation with the Commonwealth on the terms of a National Partnership, including:
-
detailed delivery parameters for Program places,
-
training place numbers for the balance of 2008-09 and for subsequent years, and
-
the integration into the Program of Queensland mechanisms for assessing industry skills requirements.
A Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth will be completed following negotiations. The Department is also assessing the detailed requirements of the PPP tendering process. This web page will be updated immediately when further information is available.
