Training and Employment Recognition Council
The Training and Employment Recognition Council is responsible for a large number of activities including:
- registration of training organisations
- registration, completion and cancellation of apprenticeships and traineeships
- course accreditation
- registration and regulation of vocational placements
- regulation of issuing qualifications and statements of attainment
- approving apprenticeship and traineeship programs
- determination of probationary periods and nominal timelines for apprenticeships and traineeships
- issuing skills recognition certificates
- providing strategic advice to the Minister on current vocational education and training issues and strategies
- recognition of group training organisations.
To help the Council provide information to the Minister, it consults with industry and regional communities. The council has met with the regional communities in Cairns, Mackay, Maryborough, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Toowoomba and Townsville.

In addition to full council bimonthly meetings, the Registration Management Entity (RME) and a number of other sub-committees have been established. Their role is to oversee, review and report on different aspects of the wide-ranging and diverse responsibilities vested in the council and to assist in the timely performance of council's legislated functions.
The RME, which meets approximately every two to three weeks throughout the year, holds a delegation from the council to deal with registration and audit matters in relation to registered training organisations and their compliance with the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).
The Apprenticeship Structures Committee, which meets monthly, is a subcommittee established to oversee and progress issues relating to apprenticeships and traineeships, in particular, administrative and regulatory matters. It also advises council on strategic issues including progress towards implementation of the Government's Queensland Skills Plan.
