Vocational education and training (VET) in schools
The Queensland Government is committed to providing young people with the best possible chance of success as they make their transition from initial education to further education, training and employment.
The integration of industry-endorsed vocational education and training into secondary school programs is enhancing students potential in the labour market through the provision of flexible combinations of study, training and employment. Increasingly, students are able to move freely between senior secondary schools, the TAFE system, university and employment.
Offering a range of pathways suited to diverse interests and needs will encourage more young people to remain in education and training while qualifying them for both work and tertiary study.
Vocational skills do not just expand student's post-school options. They also build confidence and provide basic skills which are crucial to labour market success, participation in the broader community and their development of the capacity for, and commitment to, lifelong learning.
The Queensland Government will continue to meet the challenge of creating a high quality innovative education and training system which provides fulfilling career pathways, and equips young Queenslanders to support internationally competitive businesses and industries.
