Pay and conditions
Unlike other apprentices and trainees, school-based participants:
- are not paid for their time spent undertaking training delivered by the supervising registered training organisation
- do not accrue entitlements to sick leave or recreation leave.
However, students are paid for their time spent working, including a loading to compensate for not receiving recreation and sick leave.
As part of your school-based apprenticeship or traineeship you are required to work for a minimum of 48 days over a 12 month period.
Some school-based apprentices and trainees may work one to two days a week and attend school on the remaining days.
Alternatively, you may work for blocks of time, depending on what you and your employer need. You may also work on weekends, during school holidays, or after school. You must work out these arrangements with your school and training provider.
