Finding a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship

Before choosing a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship, you should think about:

Once you have thought about these questions, you need to follow some simple steps:

  1. Talk to your parents or guardians about your interest in becoming a school-based apprentice or trainee.
  2. Advise your career counsellor, guidance officer or vocational education and training coordinator at your school that you would like to get involved in a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship.
  3. Decide what school-based apprenticeship or traineeship you would like to do.
  4. You, your school, and your parent or guardian, need to identify a suitable employer
  5. Once you have secured employment, you can then enter into a training contract with your parent or guardian's consent.

Most apprenticeships and traineeships have been approved for school-based arrangements. A listing of all apprenticeships and traineeships is available on the Queensland Training Information Service.
