Authority-developed subjects with embedded vocational education and training

Vocational education and training courses developed by the Queensland Studies Authority provide the opportunity for students to engage in nationally accredited vocational education and training, either through combining general and vocational components or by undertaking components separately.

Most strands of Queensland Studies Authority-developed Subject Area Specifications consist of a mixture of general and vocational studies, with criterion-referenced and competency-based assessment being blended. Students achieve recognition for both the general and vocational education and training components of the course, so that they can be assigned an exit level statement of achievement.

Structured work placement is recommended, but is not mandatory.

Teacher support is provided through workshops, and by guidelines for implementation and registration. Monitoring occurs through internal and external quality review procedures in accordance with the Australian Quality Training Framework.

Students have the opportunity to complete, or partially complete, vocational education and training certificates at Australian Qualification Framework levels I or II, and qualifications and competencies achieved are recorded on the Senior Certificate.
