Who can apply for an overseas qualification assessment?

Any person who has completed a formal qualification overseas at a recognised institution can apply for a qualification assessment. You must also be an Australian resident, or have permission to work or study in Australia, and live in Queensland.

The skills recognition unit of the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts cannot assess people for migration purposes. The Commonwealth Department of Immigration and Citizenship provides information on migration requirements.

Costs

Overseas qualification assessments are a free service provided to Queensland residents by the Queensland Government.

Some financial support is offered by the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training to help overseas trained professionals with qualification assessments for registration or professional recognition (i.e. bridging courses).

Trade skills and trade qualifications gained overseas

Trade skills and qualifications in trade occupations are usually assessed differently to 'professional' qualifications.

All trade areas assessed by the Department of Education, Training and the Arts require a practical competency assessment, instead of an assessment of qualifications against Australian educational standards.
