Vocational education and training and people with a disability
Vocational education and training in schools
Training providers
Vocational education and training provides skills and knowledge for work, increases job prospects and helps people with learning throughout life. Vocational education and training can link to further study options, and provides up to six levels of nationally recognised qualifications covering most industries. Prevocational and access programs also lead into these qualifications.
Many students with a disability have graduated from vocational education and training courses that everyone can access. Many high school students and jobseekers think about courses that provide a vocational qualification as a way to reach their job goals.
Vocational education and training is offered by schools, Technical and Further Education (TAFE) Institutes and by private training providers. Any recognised vocational education and training you complete will lead to a qualification recognised anywhere in Australia.
Vocational education and training in schools
Most schools offer vocational education and training. Students can work towards and receive a vocational education and training qualification recognised anywhere in Australia while they are in still at school. You can start an apprenticeship or traineeship and finish your senior certificate at the same time. This is called a school based apprenticeship or traineeship.
