Strategic Purchasing Program
The Queensland Government invests funds in training that stimulates jobs growth and reduces skills shortages. Priority areas for funding include new and emerging industries and occupations, and strategic training priorities that will enhance the economic and social well-being of Queenslanders.
The Strategic Purchasing Program aims to assist Queensland industry by providing opportunities for individuals (particularly existing workers) to develop their skills through training. Registered training organisations are vital to achieving this goal as they provide training that will lead to a better-educated, highly skilled and more flexible workforce.

Funding is available to private and public registered training organisations for the delivery of training that:
- targets priority areas to meet industry, occupational and geographical skill shortages
- targets quality training and value for money in competitive markets
- increases participation for disadvantaged and under-represented groups
- generally targets the skill needs of existing workers in new and emerging industries, in industries experiencing significant change, and in priority areas where skills need to be maintained.
Funding currently provided includes the following initiatives:
- 2006-2009 Correctional Centres Program: funding is available to registered training organisations for the provision of vocational and literacy training and assessment to people in Correctional Centres.
- Training for People with a Disability: funding for registered training organisations to provide training and assistance to people with moderate to severe disabilities who require a high level of support to participate in training.
- Creative Industries Training Initiative: funding for registered training organisations to provide training to existing workers in the creative industries sectors.
- Manufacturing and Engineering Initiatives: funding for registered training organisations to provide training to existing workers in various manufacturing and engineering industries.
- Forestry Initiative: funding for registered training organisations to deliver training from the Forest Products Industry Training package.
- Aviation Initative: funding for delivery of aeroskills training focused on growth sectors of the aviation industry.
