Funding and incentives for public sector

The Department of Employment and Training provides funding for organisations and government agencies to run skills, training and employment programs as well as assist apprentices and trainees and training providers.

First Start Program (link to Department of Employment and Industrial Relations website)
Hiring an additional trainee could attract a subsidy of $5,000, $14,000 or $16 000 for your organisation. That's the size of the incentive that the Queensland Government pays public sector agencies, not-for-profit community organisations and local government agencies who take on additional job seekers.

Community Jobs Plan - Work Placements
The Community Jobs - Work Placements Plan funds community and public sector organisations to employ long-term unemployed people and help them gain the confidence and experience to get back into the workforce. After 1 July 2004, funding for similar projects will be available from Community Jobs Plan - Work Placements.

Community Jobs Plan - Employment Assistance
The Community Jobs Plan - Employment Assistance Program funds community organisations to provide long-term unemployed people with job preparation, job search assistance, and training. After 1 July 2004, funding for similar projects will be available from Community Jobs Plan - Employment Assistance.

Training in Communities
The Training in Communities Program aims to fund organisations and clusters of organisations to provide training and other related assistance to people who are least competitive in the labour market or marginalised from learning or training opportunities.

Indigenous Employment Program
Funding has been made available to community-based organisations to develop and implement employment and training strategies to support local economic development and other employment and training opportunities for Indigenous people. Programs include the Indigenous Employment Program for Queensland Government Building and Construction Contracts (20% Policy), Indigenous Employment and Training Managers, Indigenous Employment and Training Support Officers and Indigenous Land Use Agreements.

Youth Training Incentives
Provides public sector and private sector employers with cash incentives to increase school-based apprenticeship and traineeship positions.
