Funding and incentives for individuals

The Department of Education, Training and the Arts provides funding for organisations and government agencies to run skills, training and employment programs as well as assist apprentices and trainees and training providers.

Youth Allowance (Centrelink)
For full-time students aged 16 to 24 OR unemployed people aged under 21.

Newstart Allowance (Centrelink)
For people aged over 21 who are unemployed or are temporarily unable to work due to illness, injury or disability.

Free and low cost courses
The 15 Queensland TAFE institutes offer a range of TAFE Queensland Short Course and Adult Community Education courses.

For apprentices and trainees

$1000 Early Completion payment for eligible apprentices
Apprentices in an eligible skill shortage occupation will be paid a $1000 bonus if they complete their apprenticeship early.

Travel & accommodation allowance
Apprentices and trainees who have to travel to attend courses in relation to their training program may be eligible for a travel and accommodation allowance.

WorldSkills Australia Competitions in Queensland
WorldSkills Australia competitions challenge young people, their teachers, trainers and employers to achieve world class standards in all industries and promotes the status of vocational education and training across Australia.

Queensland overseas scholarships for tradespersons
The Queensland Overseas Foundation provides overseas travel and work options to young tradespeople who have completed their formal trade training. The Foundation is a voluntary non-profit organisation that is sponsored by Queensland industry and supported by the State Government.

For people with disabilities

The Vocational Education and Training Disability Support Service provides support for students with a disability who are undertaking off-the-job training funded by the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. If you are eligible your training provider can access this program for you.
