Choose the right training
Once you have identified your training needs, you can start making decisions on how those needs will be addressed.
Recognised training programs are delivered as part of a training package which is, in turn, comprised of a set of nationally endorsed standards and qualifications for recognising and assessing skills in a specific industry or enterprise.
However, training packages do not specify the content, venue or duration of training, so it is up to you - in collaboration with a registered training organisation and your staff - to decide on the what, how, where and when of your training.
Once the training is complete, if your staff can demonstrate the required competencies in line with the guidelines set down in the relevant training package, they will be issued with a nationally recognised qualification.
Finding a training provider
There are a number of ways to find a suitable training organisation:
- search for training organisations by postcode at training.com.au
- access information on your local TAFE institute
- access information on training organisations that provide government funded training for apprenticeships and traineeships
- contact an Australian Apprenticeships Centre.
Once you have a list of training providers operating in your area, the following questions provide a checklist for choosing the training provider that will best suit your needs:
- Is the organisation a registered training organisation?
- Does the organisation deliver training that is nationally recognised?
- Does the organisation deliver training that best suits the needs of your company?
- Does the organisation have expertise in the type of equipment used by your company?
- What is the cost of the training?
Choosing a training program
Once you have chosen a training provider, you will need to negotiate the content and scope of the training that your staff will receive.
