The quarterly labour market and training review provides an overview of labour market and economic developments for Queensland and covers a range of areas that include youth, mature aged and training statistics as well as a commentary on the short-term outlook for employment.

Highlights

In trend terms, total employment for Queensland increased over the year to June 2008 by 2.4% (or 50, 600 persons) compared with 2.4% for Australia.

Youth (15-24 year olds) and mature aged employment (45-64 year olds) increased by 3.0% and 2.9% respectively in Queensland over the 12 months to June 2008.

ABS job vacancies in Queensland rose by around 3,100 (or 8.0%) over the May quarter 2008, and were significantly above (17.1%) the level for the same quarter in 2007.

The March quarter saw modest growth in business investment but strong public final demand.
