Customising a training product
Customisation is the tailoring of a training product (a training package or an accredited course) to meet the specific needs of your business or industry - where modifications do not change the original product to the point where the package or course requires separate accreditation.
Maintaining national consistency of qualifications is a key consideration when customising training products. Any customisation must ensure the integrity of:
- any existing endorsed national competency standards, or other standards forming the basis of the training package or accredited course
- Australian Qualifications Framework qualifications
- industry skill and portability requirements.
It is also important to consider other industry sectors and enterprises, and your industry as a whole, when contextualising units of competency at the time of delivery. Care must be taken to:
- include content relevant to your industry as a whole (e.g. industry terminology, work practices)
- define a context through which the outcomes of a unit of competency will be achieved
- use enterprise-specific equipment, facilities and learning resources
- tailor assessment instruments to suit the needs of your industry sector and training attendees (e.g. workplace project, reasonable modification for an individual with a disability)
- include enterprise-specific contexts in the range of variables
- add relevant, enterprise-specific underpinning knowledge.
