Certificate and diploma courses

Certificate qualifications

There are four levels of certificate qualifications that help you learn the skills and knowledge that employers and industry want for different occupations. The higher the level of certificate the more skills and knowledge you will develop during the training. If you do an apprenticeship or traineeship, you receive a Certificate II, III, or IV, depending on the level of training.

Entry to certificate courses is directly through the training organisation with most students needing to complete Year 10 to be eligible. Find a course.

Diplomas and advanced diplomas

Diplomas and advanced diplomas are recognised by professional bodies throughout Australia. Diplomas usually take two years full-time, while advanced diplomas may take an additional six months.

Entry to these courses is usually via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre, particularly for full-time courses, with most students needing to complete Year 12 to be eligible. Find a course.

As Australia has a national training system with common goals across all the states and territories, qualifications are valid wherever you go in Australia - great for your job prospects!

If you want to continue with your study, you may be able to use your certificate or diploma to gain credit towards a degree course offered by a university. Some TAFE institutes and training organisations have established formal arrangements to allow graduates to move easily from diploma to degree study.
