Your training contract

Training contract

The training contract is a legally binding contract between your employer and you (and your parent or guardian, if you are under 18 years of age).

Nominal term of training contract

The training contract, as a legal contract, has a start date and a nominal term. The term is set in consultation with the particular industry.

Competency-based training

Each apprenticeship and traineeship is competency-based, which places primary emphasis on what a person can do as a result of their training and experience. This means that the time it takes to complete a competency-based apprenticeship or traineeship is flexible.

Changing your contract
Sometimes, during the term of an apprenticeship or traineeship, there is a need for an employer or apprentice or trainee to amend the details contained in the training contract.

Changing employers
You may move from one employer to another if all parties agree.

Changing your training provider
You and your employer can change training providers during the apprenticeship or traineeship. Learn more about how to change your training provider.

Cancelling your contract
The training contract you have entered into with your employer is legally binding. Cancellation of a training contract should only be considered as a last resort. Learn more about cancelling the training contract.
