Changing employers

Can I transfer to another employer?

You may move from one employer to another if all parties agree. First, you will need to cancel the training contract you have with your current employer.

To cancel a training contract, you and your employer must agree to the cancellation in writing (if you are under 18 years of age your parent or guardian must also agree). For more information, see the fact sheet on cancellation of training contracts (where all parties agree).

Once cancelled, you can sign another training contract with another employer. You will need to complete another probationary period with your new employer. Read the fact sheet on probationary periods.

If your new training contract is for the same apprenticeship or traineeship, you may be granted credit for previous service or experience. Read the fact sheet on previous service or experience.

What happens if my employer's business is sold?

If your employer's business is sold, and the new owner agrees to continue your apprenticeship or traineeship, your training contract is automatically transferred to the new owner. Read the fact sheet on statutory assignment.
