Changing your training contract
During the term of your apprenticeship or traineeship, the details in the training contract may need to be amended. The Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts must be advised of any changes. Your responsibilities, and those of your employer and your supervising registered training organisation, vary depending on the type of change required.
For more details on changing a training contract, read the fact sheet on amendments of registered training contracts.
Extending your training contract
All apprenticeship and traineeship training contracts have a start date and a nominal term.
If the nominal term of your apprenticeship or traineeship is due to end before all your training is complete, you and/or your employer can apply to the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts for an extension of the nominal term of the training contract. The form extension of nominal term of an apprenticeship or traineeship [DOC 159kb] can be used for this purpose.
Once the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts has received an application to extend the nominal term, the department will either approve or disapprove the extension, and advise all parties to the training contract by letter.
For more detailed information, see the fact sheet on extension of nominal term of an apprenticeship or traineeship.
Finishing early
Most apprenticeships and traineeships operate using competency-based training, the time required to achieve skills and knowledge is flexible. This allows you to finish your apprenticeship or traineeship when you achieve competency in the areas outlined in the training plan.
If you complete your training before the completion date, there is no need to reduce the term of the apprenticeship or traineeship. For more information, see the section on the completion process.
