Training Plan - minimum requirements
The parties to the training plan are the employer, the apprentice or trainee and the supervising registered training organisation.
A training plan for an apprentice or trainee documents the training to be delivered to the apprentice or trainee by the employer and supervising registered training organisation. It is important that skills required by the apprentice or trainee to perform their job competently are identified in the training plan.
The supervising registered training organisation is required by the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts to negotiate the development of the training plan in conjunction with both the employer and apprentice or trainee. Where the training plan is for a school-based apprentice or trainee, the student's school is required to be involved in negotiating the impact of the apprenticeship or traineeship on the student's school timetable.
The parties to a training plan must comply with the training requirements specified in the signed training plan. See Fact Sheet 105 Training plans for apprentices and trainees for further information.
Minimum requirements of a training plan
While there is no set format for a training plan, an example based on the minimum requirements is available to assist in the development of a training plan. The minimum information to be included in the training plan includes:
-
name of the qualification
-
list of competencies to be undertaken
-
expected duration and expected completion date of the apprenticeship or traineeship
-
agreed method of delivery and release pattern to achieve each individual competency
-
training and assessment methodology for any competency that will be achieved totally in a simulated work environment
-
specific start and end dates for completion, demonstration and assessment of each competency both on and off-the-job
-
competencies, competency groupings or competency weightings that set out the expected progression through the qualification
-
specific language, literacy, numeracy or disability support to be delivered (if applicable)
-
any identified current competency held by the apprentice or trainee, or recognition of prior learning
-
any alternative training arrangements (on and off-the-job) that may be required to assist apprentices and trainees with special needs
-
assessment details, arrangements and responsibilities of the supervising registered training organisation and the employer or workplace assessor
-
monitoring/contact arrangements and obligations
-
specific information on the employment and training schedule for school-based apprentices and trainees.
Parties to a training plan
To enable the apprentice or trainee to achieve any competency the employer or supervising registered training organisation cannot adequately deliver, the parties to the training plan may consider temporarily assigning the apprentice or trainee to another employer. See Fact Sheet 150 Temporary transfer of an apprentice or trainee for further information.
