For people who need help with training
Supervising registered training organisations can provide assistance if you require additional learning support, such as help with maths, reading or writing skills.
Support is also available from the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts by calling 1800 210 210.
Funded training
The Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts pays for the training for apprenticeships and traineeships in areas of employment growth and economic development.
Tool allowance
For some apprenticeships, employers must provide their apprentices with tools to a stated retail value. To find out if your employer is required to supply tools for your apprenticeship, visit the Queensland Training Information Service database and search on the apprenticeship. The database shows the amount of tool allowance (if any) applicable to each trade, and when it is payable.
If you are a trainee, you are not eligible for a tool allowance.
For more information, telephone Wageline on 1300 369 945.
Travel and accommodation assistance
The Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts provides financial assistance to apprentices and trainees who have to travel away from their usual workplace to attend training with their supervising registered training organisation. Read the fact sheet to learn more about travel and accommodation assistance.
To claim travel and accommodation subsidies when attending off-the-job training with your training provider, you should use the Apprentice and trainee travel and accommodation subsidy claim form [PDF 118kb]. To be eligible, the distance travelled must be more than 100 kilometres round trip.
If you are experiencing financial difficulties when attending off-the-job training with your training provider, you should use the Special provisions: advance/additional payment form [PDF 200kb]. This form is also used when you need payment in advance of the standard or special travel and accommodation subsidy.
For more information, see the Travel & accommodation allowance: policy statement & guidelines [PDF 186kb].
