Problems with training

I don't have a training plan
My training record is not being signed
I'm not learning anything
I'm not happy with my training provider
How do I make a complaint about my training provider?

I don't have a training plan for my apprentice or trainee

Every apprentice and trainee must have a training plan outlining the training to be delivered by the employer and the training provider (supervising registered training organisation). The training plan should be negotiated and signed during your probationary period (that is, during the first 90 days for apprentices, the first 30 days for trainees).

The parties to the training plan are you, your employer, and your supervising registered training organisation.

If you don't have a signed training plan, and your probationary period is completed, you should talk to your employer about the need to develop a training plan. Contact Apprenticeships Info on 1800 210 210 for further advice and assistance, or contact us by email at training@deta.qld.gov.au.

For more information, read the fact sheets:

My training record is not being signed

The training provider (supervising registered training organisation) must provide you with an appropriate training record within 14 days of signing your training plan.

The training provider and your employer must, at regular intervals (at least once every three months), enter details of completed training in your training record.
You should regularly ask your employer and training provider to go through your training record.

If your requests to update your training record are not met, you should contact the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts for advice and assistance by telephoning 1800 210 210, or by email at training@deta.qld.gov.au.

I'm not learning anything

You, your employer, and your training provider, will have developed a training plan that outlines the training to be delivered, and when you should complete each competency. You will all need to review your training plan regularly to ensure your training is progressing satisfactorily.
If you don't think you are making any progress:

I'm not happy with my training provider

Every apprentice and trainee must have a training provider (supervising registered training organisation) that will work with your employer to provide facilities, services, supervision and the training required under the training plan.

Your training provider must carry out a wide range of duties, including:

Read the fact sheet for more information about the responsibilities of supervising registered training organisations  [PDF 55kb].

You and your employer may replace your chosen training provider. For more information, read the fact sheet on replacement of a supervising registered training organisation [PDF 24kb].

A training provider that fails to fulfil its duties should be reported to the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts. Before lodging a complaint, you should try to resolve the matter through the training provider's internal grievance or appeals process. Ask for a copy of the training provider's policies and procedures.

How do I make a complaint about my training provider?

If you are not satisfied with the quality of training delivery and assessment, or with any other matter involving a training provider, you can contact the Department of Education, Training and the Arts for assistance.

More information about how to make a complaint can be found in the Do you have a complaint about the quality of your training? [PDF 95kb] brochure.
