Dealing with problems
If you disagree with a decision made by the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts on any apprenticeship or traineeship matter, you can:
- request a review of the decision by your local office of the department
- refer the matter to the Training Ombudsman
- lodge an appeal with the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.

If you believe that the department did not know, or did not fully consider, all information relating to a decision regarding your apprenticeship or traineeship, you can request a review by your local office of the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts.
In your written application you should state why you believe the decision should be reconsidered and include any relevant information..
Training Ombudsman
The Training Ombudsman provides free, impartial advice to apprentices, trainees and their employers. The Training Ombudsman is also an independent office for resolving complaints dealing with matters such as:
- training delivered to apprentices and trainees under training contracts
- adequacy of facilities, range of work and supervision provided by employers
- circumstances in which training contracts were signed, amended or cancelled
- failure of apprentices and trainees to make progress under their training plans
- decisions or actions affecting apprenticeships and traineeships.
The Training Ombudsman cannot deal with a matter if it is before the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.

Queensland Industrial Relations Commission
You may lodge an appeal with the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission if you disagree with a decision such as:
- a refusal to register a training contract
- an amendment or assignment of a registered training contract
- an order for discipline
- cancellation of a training contract
- cancellation of the registration of a training contract
- cancellation of a completion certificate
- extension of the nominal term of a registered training contract.
