Frequently asked questions
How do I cancel my apprenticeship or traineeship?
You, your employer, and your parent/guardian (if applicable), may agree in writing to cancel your training contract at any time. Read the fact sheet on cancellation of training contracts (where all parties agree).
You may also apply to cancel your training contract if you are unable to fulfil your obligations. For example, your employer's business may relocate, or you may no longer be able to perform the work because of a physical condition. You must apply in writing to your local regional office of the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts. The Training and Employment Recognition Council needs to approve the cancellation before it becomes effective.
For further information, see the fact sheeton cancellation of training contracts (application from one party).
My employer won't let me do my training. What should I do?
First, you should try to speak with your employer. Remind them that the training you are required to receive is detailed in your training plan.
If the matter cannot be resolved, you should contact apprenticeships info on 1800 210 210 for assistance, and alert the supervising registered training organisation to the situation.
If the issue is still unresolved, telephone the Training Ombudsman on 1300 306 699 or by email at ombudsman@trainingombudsman.qld.gov.au.
How can I get a copy of my completion certificate?
If you have misplaced your completion certificate, and you completed your apprenticeship or traineeship in Queensland, you can obtain a replacement copy by telephoning the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts on 1800 210 210. A charge will apply.
