Signing the contract
A training contract legally binds you and your employer. It documents the roles and responsibilities of you and your employer during the apprenticeship or traineeship. A training contract is used to register your apprenticeship or traineeship.
The training contract must be completed during the probationary period and given to your Australian Apprenticeships Centre within one month after the probationary period ends.
If you do not do this, your apprenticeship or traineeship may not be registered.
As the training contract is an important document, make sure you understand and check the information in it before you sign it.
For more information, read the fact sheet on training contracts.
Parent/guardian requirements
If you are under 18 years of age and under the care and control of a parent or legal guardian, your parent or guardian must be a party to the training contract and ensure that you adhere to the responsibilities attached to the contract.
Once you turn 18, your parent or guardian ceases to be a legal party to the training contract and is no longer responsible for your apprenticeship or traineeship.
Read the fact sheet to learn more about parent/guardian requirements [PDF55kb].
