Rod Welford MP

Mr Welford was elected to Parliament in 1989. He is a former Attorney-General and Minister for Justice (2001-2005) and Minister for Environment and Heritage and Minister for Natural Resources (1998-2001).

Prior to entering Parliament, Mr Welford was a solicitor and a barrister. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with first class honours, a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Science in Environmental Management. He also holds Graduate Diplomas in Legal Practice and Industrial Relations.

Mr Welford participates actively in local community organisations and is patron of the Albany Creek Junior Rugby League Football Club, the Pine Hills Sports Club and the Mitchelton Senior Citizens Association.

He is a current member of the Royal Lifesaving Society, Queensland Surf Life Saving Association, Everton Park School Swimming Club and Arana Leagues Club. Mr Welford is also chair of the Whitlam Institute for Social and Economic Research.

His personal interests include philosophy, permaculture and environmental design, swimming, surfing and reading.
