Education and Training Reforms for the future - Changes to the school system
In March 2002, the Queensland Government released 'Queensland the Smart State - Education and Training Reforms for the Future', a landmark package of proposed education and training reforms in which the government proposed that all young people should be 'learning or earning'.
Breaking the Unemployment Cycle
Through the Queensland Government's Breaking the Unemployment Cycle initiative more than 70 000 apprenticeships, traineeships and job placements have been achieved since 1998.
The Breaking the Unemployment Cycle initiative 2004-07 is committed to the development of the Smart State through a range of programs and services that strategically target job seekers who most need assistance to enter the workforce and to build the skills that underpin the growth of the State's businesses, industries and communities.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student courses
TAFE Queensland offers a variety of courses specifically for students of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.
Stepping Forward - improving pathways for all young people
The MCEETYA Taskforce on Transition from School has developed an Action Plan that implements the Ministerial Declaration Stepping Forward - improving pathways for all young people. The Declaration outlines Ministers' commitment to young Australians and provides a common direction for improving social, educational and employment outcomes for all young people.
The department continues to deliver on the Government's Smart State objectives through its new vision of Queenslanders excelling in learning, skilling and work for personal, community and economic prosperity. The objectives are also supported by the department's strategic intent to skill Queenslanders for employment and building the social and economic capacity of communities.
The department also contributes to national objectives, such as those outlined in the national strategy for vocational education and training.
Arts Pathways Initiative
The Arts Pathways Initiative is a school-to-work transition pilot project that explores the potential and use of elements of arts and entertainment in the re-engagement process for young people who are at risk of being disconnected from earning and learning.
