Skills Queensland - a skills commission for Queensland
The Queensland Government will establish an industry-led skills commission, to be known as Skills Queensland to drive training investment and skills reform. Greg Kempton, Managing Director Watpac, will chair an interim steering committee to provide advice on skills needs and assist with establishing Skills Queensland by the end of 2010.

LNG Industry Training Program
If you have an interest in training for the LNG Industry, please contact the Coal Seam Gas and Liquefied Natural Gas Hotline on 13 25 23 or register your interest online. The hotline provides advice and referral to individuals and organisations on training opportunities being created by the LNG Industry.

New funding priority for User Choice
From 1 July 2010, the User Choice 2010 - 2015 program will include a new Priority Four (25 per cent subsidised) funding level for existing workers.

Pre-apprenticeship Skilling Pathway
The Pre-apprenticeship Skilling Pathway provides introductory trade-related training. Additional funding is now available for 2010-11 for training providers to deliver the program.

Developing a Skilled Workforce
Developing a Skilled Workforce is an initiative of the Queensland Government's Surat Basin Future Directions Statement to manage rapid growth of the resources sector in the Surat Basin region. A comprehensive Workforce Development Plan is being developed to provide responsive strategies to workforce needs in the region.

Queensland overseas scholarships
Queenslanders who have recently completed an apprenticeship or traineeship (Certificate III or above), or a vocational certificate IV or above, in the past four years and gained relevant work experience are being given the opportunity to fine tune their skills overseas.
